Crossing the border during the totality

Before the conference itself started, there was a panel exhibition of ÚSTR (The Institute for the Study of

Totalitarian Regimes) that was availiable throughout the whole two months. Me and my friends Jirka Urban and Michal Vrána, we set up the exhibition in one afternoon. If we want to let it done by professionals, it would cost nearly 14 000 CZK and took two days. I don't think we look that rich and when the University donate us only with 8 000 CZK there wasn't nothing to talk about.

And it wasn't that difficult, especially Jirka is expert on those things "unpropbable till two mins, impossible till three..."

Then we went shopping. Few days before I was helping with our History Department Conference where was left lot of food, so I took some of that for my own Conference. But we had to buy some

addittional staff so we went shopping anyway. Jirka and his girlfriend Mája prepared a list of things to buy but we weren't completely following that list. That happens when guys go shopping without any responsible person. We had a lot of fun.

What wasn't funny were the emails which I was recieving few days before the Conference. Last year we had something around 40 visitors and 20 of them went to play our city game. This year it should have been almost 70.

We did lot of preparation, I invited journalist from newspapers and TV and then, one day before the Conference I had to recall them because it would be embarassing. I have respect ot those 4 or 5 students who said that they will come and really came, other I disrespect till that moment. It isn't fair from them and I believe they don't even understand what it took to prepare it.

Anyway, we started in the local cinema calle "Varšava", where we watched old czech movie

connected to crossing the border in totalism. It is called "Král Šumavy" and it is really good picture considering how old it is.

On Saturday morning, Mr. Kasáček will talk about his own experience. Afterwards, the author of "Král Šumavy" ("The King of Šumava") will present his exhibition and lecture on the subject.

All the technical and historical accuracies will this year be supervised by Mgr. Kateřina Lozoviuková, Ph.D. Every participant who wishes to join in has to register via the form in the "Getting in" section. The symbolic fee for entering is 30CZK.

After the lunch the game will set everyone to the border territories of the totalitarian

Czechoslovakia and test everyone´s abilities and strength.

The success is will lay in their own hands...
